Welcome to the home of model aircraft flying in Yeovil.
Located in the heart of beautiful South Somerset, we are fortunate to be able to fly from the Leonardo (formerly AgustaWestland) airfield, home to the AW159 Wildcat and the AW101 Merlin.
Situated surprisingly close to the town centre, we have a well-maintained fixed-wing flying patch just to the south of the runway and a separate patch for helicopters and multi-rotors (drones) – allowing all types of aircraft to fly at once in separate airspace. We are well placed for FPV flights too, with the whole of the airfield to fly in. We can’t allow cameras that actually record pictures or video though, as the airfield is a secure site.
We have ample parking and a club hut for getting out of the rain or drinking hot coffee in the winter. We fly all year round, weather permitting and it is not unknown to see models in the air on New Year’s day!
We are a small, friendly, BMFA affiliated club. We welcome glow (nitro), petrol (gas) and electric powered fixed and rotary wing model aircraft subject to the usual BMFA noise limits. We also have excellent facilities for multi-rotor (drone) models. We fly off grass, so really small models may have to be hand-launched. We can easily cater for models up to 80″ wingspan, but not LMA models. We have electricity for battery charging and the ever important kettle!
With three club instructors and two BMFA approved examiners, we can carry out instruction and assessment for the BMFA ‘A’ and ‘B’ fixed wing, ‘A’ rotary wing (helicopter) and ‘A’ multi-rotor (drone) certificates.
We welcome new members over the age of sixteen. Unfortunately we can’t allow younger members as this is an active airfield.
